One needs to take a 45 minutes flight to the Lukla airstrip to start any treks on this region . Mt Everest lies in the Everest national park. The region is rich in diverse flora and fauna. The common plants found are Chir pine, blue pine, hemlock, junipers and rhododendrons. Those trekking in spring can see the spectacle of blooming rhododendron flowers while a summer trek rewards with a profusion of small flowers on the ground throughout the alpine valleys .Among the birds, the beautiful impeyan pheasant is most important one . Different species of deer , namely , barking deer, musk deer and Himalayan thar are often seen while trekking .The yaks are widely used for carrying loads , but the wild yaks are almost extinct now. The Everest region is inhabited by the friendly Sherpa people who are world famous as mountaineers . They are followers of Buddhism.
